Translating the Ordinary is a notebook of scribbled ideas and inspirations. It’s a place for me to share the odds and ends of my week: the thoughts I’ve had, the writings I’ve done, the beauty I’ve stumbled upon.
But my life, at least in this particular season, isn’t a very adventurous one. In fact, it often looks quite ordinary. Sometimes, the most exciting part of my day is working on a crossword puzzle, or buying a new kind of laundry detergent, or reading a few pages of a book before falling asleep.
And yet – that’s the stuff of everyday creativity. As a writer, I collect the ordinary moments and weave them through with reflections on faith, love, and the peculiarities of human nature. And then I wind up with a bunch of writings that are by turns melancholic, exasperated, frank, and bemused.
Hence this website – which is, you could say, the record of a girl trying to find a semblance of beauty, truth, and peace as she translates her ordinary life into something that feels, well, a little more extraordinary.
Thanks for stopping by.
