Windows of Hope and Despair

A quick journal scribble.

“Window of Hope.”

Looking out a polished glass –
The sun is in the sky.
With joy I look upon the scene:
The people passing by.

“Window of Despair.”

Draw the curtains,
Close the door.
I want nothing to do
With Life
Anymore.

Ring Tone

Problem: Constantly feeling a vague anxiety that you’ll forget to silence your phone and then it’ll inevitably go off at the most inconvenient of times (causing you to attract some uncomfortable stares and very bothered-sounding sighs in the process).

Solution: Choosing a pleasant ring tone which minimizes the consequences of any such forgetfulness. If you choose wisely, people may not even realize that a phone is going off; they’ll simply wonder where such pretty music has suddenly come from. My phone now rings to the sound of a classical Spanish guitar piece called “Mi Favorita.” Crisis effectively (and melodically) averted.

Mandy

I never fancied myself as a Barry Manilow kind of girl, but I think this song is really poignant and pretty. The melody reminds me of “Wuthering Heights” by Kate Bush – can you hear the similarities?

Later on, I made other accounts (Twitter, Instagram), but I ultimately chose to deactivate most of my social media presence because it always seemed to do me more harm than good. Recently, for some reason or another, I reactivated my Instagram account, and then ended up stuck on the site for a week before it allowed me to close my profile again. The experience led me to compile the following (embarrassingly long) list of pros and cons of social media use.

She Came in through the Bathroom Window

My background soundtrack for brushing my teeth tonight. “Sunday’s on the phone to Monday. Tuesday’s on the phone to me.”

(Also, don’t you think that Joe Cocker looks like Mark Ruffalo in this album art?)
